Music Technology and Production

September 20, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, repeating until March 18, 2018

Have you always wondered how to make your own music recordings? Are you a songwriter looking to turn those songs into a finished product? Basic recording techniques and digital audio production have become necessary skills for today’s well-rounded musician. This class is open for students, ages 12-16, who are curious about how digital technology can aid in creating recorded music. Through various musical styles, the student will:

1. learn of the historical, aesthetic and social contexts of audio recording

2. gain a critical understanding of the equipment and practices involved in modern recording techniques

3. develop a practical and creative approach to creating, processing and mixing recordings

Pre-requisites for students
Students should preferably have access to a DAW (such as ProTools, Logic Pro X, Cubase, etc. There are also free options such as Ardour, Garage Band), though not necessary. Students should also have had exposure to playing an instrument/singing and some very basic music theory (meter, pitch, form).
