What is the Community Partnerships Division?
Villa Musica’s Community Partnerships Division oversees all of the educational programs, musical and organizational collaborations, and outreach activities that run off-site. Our off-site programs include free monthly performances at community centers, music education offered through Title I schools in collaboration with San Diego Unified School District’s VAPA program, free music instruction in libraries in South-East San Diego and STEAM outreach.
Villa Musica has offered many opportunities for under-served youth over the past 11 years. If you wish to know more about our Community Programming Division, or to contribute to its success Financially as a Volunteer or as a Community Partner, please do not hesitate to contact Aaron Bullard, our Director of Community Partnerships at email@example.com
projects in Schools
In the Summer of 2013 the San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture reached out to Villa Musica to see if we could take over the administration and expansion of the After School Strings Program based in Logan Heights. Since accepting this opportunity, Villa Musica has already expanded the program and is currently serving over 100 children at 4 different locations.
At Ronald McDonald House (affiliated with Rady’s Children’s Hospital), Villa Musica offers bi-monthly music education classes to siblings of hospitalized children as part of their School Away from School partnership with the San Diego Unified School District. During the summer, we offer free music enrichment programming.
We work with several schools in the San Diego Unified School District and offer after-school or in-class music education.
projects in the community
Based on feedback from the local community, Villa Musica opened its first satellite at the Logan Heights Library in the fall of 2014. This program was launched with support from the Commission for Arts and Culture and the office of Council Member, David Alvarez. All classes are divided into 10 week sessions and are free, with the option of a flexible tiered donation program. Our current schedule for classes at the Logan Heights Library can be found here.
As part of our ENCORE! program for senior San Diegans seeking a creative musical community, we offer recitals at community centers throughout San Diego. Currently, we are performing during Senior Luncheons at the Bayside Community Center and the Peninsula Shepherd Center. See here for dates and times
For our STEAM outreach, we partnered with the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, participating in the 52 Weeks of Science, Barrio Logan program. We also partner with FabLab San Diego and the new learning platform, LRNG, where Villa Musica offers local and digital learning experiences, as well as the possibility to earn badges.
