Irina Telyukova, Ph.D., is an economist, a yoga teacher and a lifelong classical pianist and choral singer. Irina is a Vice President of predictive modeling and forecasting at Intensity Corporation, a San Diego economic consulting and data science firm. Prior to this, Irina was a professor of Economics at UCSD for 8 years, teaching and publishing on the subjects of household finance and financial security in retirement. Irina started playing piano at age 5, and graduated from a pre-conservatory music school in her native Moscow at age 13. She remained an active concert pianist in high school and college in New England, performing regularly as a soloist and chamber musician. After college, Irina lived in New York, where she was part of the semi-professional and prominent Russian Chamber Chorus of New York. With this group, Irina was fortunate enough to record a CD of Tchaikovsky’s Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, and performed on the stages of Avery Fisher Hall and Carnegie Hall, among other venues. Upon moving to San Diego, Irina became part of a chamber music trio of piano, violin and clarinet, which, by serendipitous association with the then year-old organization, became known as the Villa Musica Piano Trio. Irina is also a Yoga Alliance-certified advanced yoga teacher. She has been teaching in a variety of yoga styles since 2004, and in 2010 founded Yoga Beyond Cancer, devoted to teaching healing yoga and meditation, and specifically yoga for cancer recovery, to groups and individuals of all ages. Irina is very excited to have the opportunity to serve on the Board of Villa Musica, whose progress and mission she’s been fortunate enough to follow almost since the organization’s inception.
