Steve Willard – Guitar / Ukulele

Description

Guitarist and creative writer Steve Willard’s lessons teach musical fundamentals, while allowing students a choice of styles and repertoires—pop and folk, classical, hard rock, creative improvisation and jazz—to explore and master.  Steve specializes in all members of the guitar family: electric and classical guitar, electric bass, and ukulele—as well as songwriting.  In addition to his musical training, Steve holds an M.F.A. in poetry writing from the University of Iowa.  He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in musicology at UCSD, and holds M.A. and B.M. degrees in music composition from SUNY Stony Brook and the University of Miami, where he studied classical guitar, and jazz improvisation.

Before joining Villa Musica, Steve taught both music and creative writing at UCSD, SUNY Stony Brook, Long Island University, and the University of Iowa, and taught K-12 guitar and piano lessons in the Chula Vista school system and at the Stony Brook School (NY.)  Willard is active as a soloist and with bands throughout the U.S. as well as at local venues (Museum of Making Music, San Diego Museum of Art, Conrad Prebys Music Center, Art Around Adams).
