|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 11:00 am on Wednesday, repeating until July 29, 2020

This class is a brief overview of the evolution of the Guitar. Aimed at guitar lovers of all ages, this “youth friendly (10 years+)” series of seven classes introduces historic guitar milestones by using music listening samples, pictures of instruments and notation systems, and interactive work with the instrument.  The class will start with the introduction of the different instruments that preceded and are related to the Guitar. We will discover the different notation systems used in the 1600’s and 1700’s, followed by a brief overview of the baroque guitar and transition to the Classical and Romantic Guitar. Continuing with Guitarist Andres Segovia  participants will learn about his efforts to bring the guitar into the world of the virtuoso and discover his collaborations with other composers. Finally, we will learn about the music of the end of 20th century and beginning of the 21st century.
