Rebeca Tamez was born into a family where music had high importance. At the age of eight she began learning how to play the violin. During the next few years she played with the San Diego Youth Orchestra. The summer between middle school and high school Tamez wanted to try a different style of music. At this point she began playing in Mariachi Juvenil de San Diego. She continued playing mariachi music throughout high school and her higher education. Tamez graduated from the University of San Diego with her Bachelors of Arts in Music with an emphasis in music theory. She continues to play mariachi music to this day. Tamez wants to ensure that all of her students are able to enjoy and learn music.
