Linda Bannan is a mixed-media artist based in Vista, California, originally from Columbus, Ohio. She works in watercolor, acrylic, ink, hand stitching, and natural-dyed fabric, often combining all of them in a single piece. Her work is regularly selected for the San Diego County Fair fine arts exhibition and is currently on view at Alta Vista Botanical Gardens. She has been making art for more than three decades.
The beauty of the natural world forms the wellspring of her inspiration: what she sees, what she hears, what she feels. Forms suggest leaves, seeds, and growing things, while birdsong, wind, water, and the hum of a place surface as pattern and repetition. She resists letting any of it settle into a single reading, and wants a viewer to find their own way in.
Linda builds her pieces in layers. Paint lays down the ground, ink brings in line and pattern, and stitches add dimension, rising up to the touch and carrying a rhythm, a beat repeating across the piece. Working this way gives her the freedom to follow ideas wherever they lead, blending color, texture, and form in ways that feel both spontaneous and deeply intentional.
