Description
Ramses Mejia is a San Diego based mariachi violinist, arranger, and educator with over ten years of
professional performance and teaching experience. He began his mariachi training as a middle school
elective and continued through high school performing ensembles, later expanding his musicianship
through participation in college mariachi programs while deepening his understanding of traditional and
contemporary mariachi performance practice.
Ramses has been an active member of several mariachi groups and served as Musical Director of
Mariachi Estrellas de Chula Vista. He is currently the Principal Violinist of Mariachi Nueva
Tradición and has also performed as a violinist with Dr. Jeff Nevin’s Mariachi Champaña, gaining
experience in innovative programming that bridges tradition and modern concert settings.
He has traveled extensively throughout Mexico and the United States, attending and performing at
numerous mariachi festivals, where he studied regional styles, ensemble techniques, and performance
traditions. As a performer, Mejia has accompanied internationally recognized artists including Lupita
Infante, Natalia Jiménez, and Ana Bárbara.
As an educator, he specializes in beginner to intermediate mariachi instruction, emphasizing strong
fundamentals, ensemble cohesion, stylistic accuracy, and cultural understanding. Through
performance, arranging, and teaching, Ramses Mejia is committed to cultivating the next generation of
mariachi musicians and honoring the rich legacy of the genre.
