Ava has been with Villa Musica for 7 years as a voice student (dabbling in piano and music theory as well). She will be moving on to study Vocal Performance at Lawrence University Conservatory in Appleton, Wisconsin and Villa Musica will be hosting her Graduation Recital this Sunday, August 14th at 4pm to send her off to her next adventure. All are welcome!
Ava started out with a trial voice lesson with us when she was 10 years old after being cast as Ursula in her elementary school’s production of The Little Mermaid and wanting to learn more about vocal technique. She was hooked, and has been taking private voice lessons ever since. She also took piano and music theory lessons to improve her musicianship, and along the way sang with the Villa Musica Teen Rock Band, and participated in Summer Glee camp. Her dedication and training at Villa Musica has lead to some impressive achievements:
- 1st place Southern California Vocal Association: High School Classical Solo
- 1st place San Diego National Association of Teachers of Singing: High School Musical Theater (twice!)
- Royal Conservatory of Music: First Class Honors with Distinction
- California All-State Honor Choir (and soloist)
- One of her proudest achievements was her successful audition to join the Youth Chorus for the San Diego Opera production of Hansel and Gretel
Villa Musica Executive Director Fiona Chatwin loves to think of Villa Musica as a “third home” for students– a place outside of their home and school where students can explore and grow as musicians and as people. It has certainly been Ava’s third home over the past 7 years, and we are so proud to see how music sparked something in a young student that has been nurtured by our outstanding faculty throughout her time with us. We will miss seeing her around the Villa and wish her all the best as she begins her Bachelor of Music degree!
