On a rainy November day, residents from Summercrest apartments in National City piled into our Music on the Move Van to experience the San Diego Symphony. Through our Symphonic Discoveries Program, older adults are introduced to the wonders of the symphony orchestra. They participate in two engaging classes that familiarize them with the repertoire and workings of an orchestra before attending a concert to see everything they learned in action. The program culminated in a field trip to Jacobs Music Center, made possible by tickets provided through the San Diego Symphony’s Music Connects initiative. This session of Symphonic Discoveries was taught by Villa Musica faculty Nico Hueso, and organized with the help of Marie Chris, coordinator at Summercrest. The residents of Summercrest returned feeling energized and inspired after hearing beautiful music and watching talented musicians perform.
